Reviews of some Great online guitar lesson websites

Guitar players today are much luckier than when I was starting. Not only are there more great quality guitars cheaper than ever, but you can also find huge amounts of information, help and lessons on the web for every ability and style – some free and some paid. The problem is that there are almost too many guitar lessons to choose on the web. To add to the confusion, the quality varies hugely. Anyone with a guitar, a webcam, and a YouTube account can put up a so called lesson… but that doesn’t mean they are good or useful! As LeftiesGuitars helps left handed guitarists (actually any guitarist) make great guitar and gear choices, we thought we would review a selection of online guitar lessons….

Left Handed Harp Guitar

Left Handed Harp Guitar

I have to admit that I only recently heard of the harp guitar via YouTube and a very talented man called Jamie Dupuis (Check out his YouTube Channel here). The word “harp” is used in reference to its harp-like unstopped open strings and so a harp guitar must have at least one unfretted string lying off the main fretboard, which is usually played as an open string. This family of guitars consists of several varieties of instrument configurations. With the most readily identified being the American harp guitars with either hollow arms,…

Review of Express Guitar…THE FAST, EASY, EFFECTIVE WAY TO LEARN GUITAR

Check out Express Guitar. To be honest Express Guitar is probably not one of the best guitar courses but for the price it’s not a bad choice. It consists of downloadable PDF books, audio MP3s and YouTube videos. I would say it is mainly for beginners but some more experienced players will find it useful as a refresher. The course is the work of Mike Hayes, a professional guitarist and instructor, who started playing for country dances, concerts and parties at the age of 13. Over the years he has shared the stage with many top international acts including rock guitarist Phil Emmanuel, jazz great George Golla and renowned Hawaiian guitarist Jerry Byrd. He also has a lot of experience as a tutor having begun teaching others in the late…

Review of “Iron Man: My Journey through Heaven and Hell with Black Sabbath” Tony Iommi

Iron Man Front Cover

Iron Man: My Journey through Heaven and Hell with Black Sabbath Anthony Frank “Tony” Iommi was born 19 February 1948 and is an English songwriter, producer, left handed lead guitarist and founding member of the pioneering heavy metal band Black Sabbath. As left handed guitarists go, Tony Iommi is unique in more ways than one! Without him and Black Sabbath there may not have been heavy metal!  Also, while working in a factory as a teenager, he lost the tips of the middle and ring fingers of his right hand in an accident; an event which crucially affected his playing style – how many guitarists play with plastic fingertips? Only the one and only, Tony Iommi! This book is Tony’s story of his life (although…

Review of Yamaha FG720SL Left Handed Acoustic Guitar

Yamaha Left handed guitar

Review of Yamaha’s Acoustic FG720SL Left Handed Guitar. Yamaha make excellent guitars, acoustic and electric, at really affordable prices which play as good as guitars more than two or three times the price. One of my first guitars was a Yamaha Pacifica which cost less than $300 but played better than guitars I tried for $1000 or more. This Yamaha FG720SL Left Handed Acoustic Guitar is a fantastic acoustic folk guitar, it looks good and plays great. The action is perfect for a beginner or a more experienced left handed guitarist. The guitar just feels much better than many other guitars. The tone is very nice, high, mid and low tones are above average but the sustain is a little less than on some other…
